Zi Fa Gong: Natural flow qi gong
20 Years ago I started my practice of natural flow qi gong. It is part dance, part journey work and completely spontaneous movements meant to connect with my energy and body.
I remember clearly in my mind the feeling of falling into this practice. I pulled in energy around me. I was filled with light and joy. I personally think of the energies as: ancestors, archetypes, animal/plant and rock spirits, the Great All, fairies. I ask the energy to assist me. I always thought of it as cleansing first then “activate” or open channels.
Fast forward to only a few years ago, I was studying in a book and read about natural flow. I was truly astonished!! I call it the Divine Feminine Way. Primordial, ancient, shamanic, unbound by structure it seeks internal equilibrium for that moment. Truly present in the now. I love the structured Divine Masculine form as it enables me to really practice the forms until my body recognizes the movement. Often, I will incorporate my version in a natural flow.
A Thousand Suns
A few years ago I was feeling sparky and ask for the energy of a “Thousand Suns”. I reached out and inward cultivating, visualizing and feeling the massive connection of something I never played in before. I don’t do it much as it seems quite past abundance and I immediately started sneezing as my nose was dripping. I felt a strange fever and a pulsing dizziness. My eyes started to water. I felt nauseous. I layed in bed the following days and was inundated with strange dreams unfolding. Interesting thought forms emerging. It took me on a journey for sure, but I think its quite intense! It is not a coincidence. It was a very very real intention and I felt the energy pulsing through my whole being.
Journey Work with Natural Flow
I start this practice usually attending ecstatic dance but not always. I go into my particular moves that I have names for. I start letting go. Emptying my bones. Dripping with sweat, my whole self activated and ready to receive. The great Yin yawn. There is usually a sense of fog or mist. A figure forms and we become one. We soar and I am taught stories. Sometimes there is no mist but an abrupt realization that I am something “other”. I keep going trying to figure out, what am I? Sometimes I don’t know until after the bond is released. I always ask the Spirit, what do you think of this human form? What would you express in this form? The exchange. They are giving me something, I offer up my form to allow experience to be reciprocal. It’s often met with jubilance. Serpent was excited to play with limbs, Worm felt stuck with a spine, plants are curious and poke fun at sensations that are so foreign to them. I leave these encounters with a greater perspective and expanded empathy.
