Today’s Meditation

A great turbulent wind roared outside

A few gentle sprinkles

pressure booming against my house

windchimes tinkling frantically

I was “supposed to” do landscaping and irrigation, study Hungarian, practice a dance, print a qi gong flyer and quit smoking

Feeling uninspired or unable to do any of that, I thought, I know what I am supposed to do, but what do I want to do!? So much of my week is doing what I have to do. I need a full day to sink in to what my heart wants.

I found an email of two people that responded to my Cleopatra book. I was so moved by their responses. My heart found a direction!

Today I’ll be a writer and illustrator

I shuttered myself in from the harsh winds, dust and tumbleweeds. Yes, we have those here.

I tucked into writing and drawing my new book! I am many pages in now.

I was so surprised at how much content I have for this book I am actually making it 2 parts. Half of the second part is finished. It feels like it is pouring out of me faster than I can keep up and organize it. I had to make a spreadsheet for tracking! I get to wear both my project manager and artist hat. What a fun combination.

The way I write is to first release all my random thoughts in stream of conscious. Often immediately after, I start writing a concise and meaningful prose. My notebooks are organized with washi tape so I can easily find the gold nuggets amidst the ramblings! I love keeping my notebooks in chronological order so I can read the context of why I wrote particular things. Sometimes I go back to re-word or re-order the prose in retrospect but, I like keeping it as unpolished as possible. The rawness is beautiful to me. Much like keeping a few stray pencil marks under a watercolor.
